WOVEN NARRATIVES
Is a visual story about my familial experiences and memories shared with the fearless Afro-Caribbean women in life. I weave my birthplace St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, upbringing in a single parent Kittitian home in Miami, Florida, and Ghanaian family in Ghana, West Africa where I learned to weave traditional Ghanaian textiles. I celebrate the Black Hair Salon as the center of community, intimacy, and friendship via my Caribbean roots and Ghanaian experience through the traditional craft of weaving.
